Wrightsville Beach Marathon 2016
My shower after the Wrightsville Beach Marathon was AMAZING! For the fastest on the course, the weather held off just long enough, for the rest, a cold rain soaked through to the bone. Looking at the forecast from earlier in the week, we were quite lucky it hadn’t rained all morning. But once the skies opened, the rain fell hard and cold. Made for a very tricky afternoon for photographers like myself and from the looks of it, added another obstacle to overcome on top of running a marathon. But nevertheless, so many pushed until the end. Wrapped in silver with a medal draped round their neck, finisher after finisher smiled despite the pain and the rain. Which brings me to my favorite shot today, it’s the final one. The umbrellas stuffed with friends and family, loved ones and little ones, waiting patiently despite the conditions to congratulate those tired and weary souls. At every mile on the course, at every aid station and especially at the finish line, volunteers tightened their hoods and shouted encouragement, passed out water and held signs. That’s love, folks. Those people deserve a medal this day, too. Congrats to all who ran and a big thanks to all the volunteers and family members who participated.
